BRAVE LIFE NONPROFIT HISTORY

Our organization, Brave Life, was founded in 2018 by Joy Cronjé after the birth of her son. She noticed a lack of support and resources available to families raising children with Down Syndrome in communities around her.

When her son Aragorn Brave was born with an extra chromosome, Joy was determined to provide the best possible care and support for him and other families like hers. Through her research and outreach to the global Down Syndrome community, Joy discovered a need for a local support group in her community.

She saw firsthand the positive impact that such a group could have on the lives of families raising children with Down Syndrome, and she knew that she had to do something to fill this need. Because of this, she wanted to find a way to bring the resources, knowledge, and support children and parents need to previously disadvantaged communities in her province, and eventually throughout South Africa.

With the help of a dedicated team, Joy worked tirelessly to establish Brave Life as a donation-based, public benefit organization in South Africa. Our mission is to provide support, education, and resources to families raising children with Down Syndrome, and to promote the acceptance and inclusion of individuals with intellectual disabilities in our community.

At Brave Life, we rely on the generosity of donors and funding partners to help us achieve our mission. We are grateful for the support that we have received so far, and we are committed to continuing our work for many years to come, with the goal of making a positive difference in the lives of families raising children with Down Syndrome in South Africa.
